Maverick Ammunition is coming to West Laramie.  The new business will be looking to hire 50 new employees by December 18th.

Maverick Ammunition manufactures ammunition and other equipment for shooting sports. They plan to manufacture 1.8 million rounds per week.

Gov. Matt Mead issued the following release about the company:

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) – Governor Matt Mead welcomes a new manufacturing company to Wyoming. Maverick Ammunition, which is also known as Ammo Kan, manufactures and sells ammunition and other products for shooting sports. It will open a facility in Laramie and will employ over 50 people.

Curt Perry, CEO of Ammo Kan, says his company has leased a building in Laramie and renovated the space to fit the needs of Maverick Ammunition. The company is working with the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services to set up training for Wyoming workers, according to Perry.

“This is an exciting time for Maverick Ammunition. We look forward to settling in and making Laramie our lifelong home. We appreciate the support of the local community and of the state of Wyoming as a whole as we put together our construction plans,” Perry said. “In Laramie our company will start by making range ammunition to meet unprecedented demand for that product. We expect to produce 1.8 million rounds per week by the second half of 2014.” Maverick has plans to expand to produce other ammunition, firearm components and open a showroom in Wyoming.

“I am pleased to welcome Maverick Ammunition to Wyoming. The jobs the company will create mean more opportunities for Wyoming people,” Governor Mead said. “The announcement of this business expansion is especially exciting because the company is a great fit for Wyoming. We are a solid pro-gun state. We are passionate about hunting and sport shooting, and we support a renaissance in manufacturing. ”

Dan Furphy, President and CEO of the Laramie Economic Development Corporation, said, “This is significant for the economy in Laramie. The investment by Maverick Ammunition means a lot to us, both in terms of jobs and further economic growth and diversification. The sporting goods industry is an excellent match for Albany County because of our outdoor recreation and hunting opportunities.”

The announcement by Ammo Kan follows the announcement earlier this year that firearms accessory manufacturer, HiViz Shooting Systems, was moving from Colorado to Wyoming.

“We congratulate Maverick Ammunition and the Laramie Economic Development Corporation for this announcement. It is encouraging to see local efforts paying off. The Wyoming economic development community has recognized that we are well suited to attract companies in the shooting sports and outdoor recreation manufacturing industry,” Bob Jensen, CEO of the Wyoming Business Council said.
