The Laramie weekend movie forecast calls for clearing and warming. The much-anticipated film, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" has finally arrived in Laramie.

This is the first of three new films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 award-winning book, "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again." Early reviews indicate this film rates a C+. This new trilogy of Hobbit films is directed by Peter Jackson, who also directed the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. The events in this latest film, also set in middle earth, predate the events shown in the "Lord of the Rings" films, as you can see in the trailer below.

The serious "Oscar-bait" movies will open later. "Les Miserables" opens on Christmas and "Zero Dark Thirty" won't get to Laramie until early next year.

Returning to Laramie for another run is the highly-regarded time-travel film, "Looper", starring Bruce Willis and Joseph Gorden-Levitt. The best film in Laramie is "The Life of Pi", which rates a B+. Also being held over are "Skyfall" and "Rise of the Guardians", which both rate a B.
