Question:

What is the school district's plan for the old high school? As a neighbor of the old high school, we are concerned that it will become a vandalism target.

Answer:

"The reuse of the old high school property is under the direction of Albany County School District #1 which is a separate entity. Plans were previously discussed about building a new elementary school on the site. Funding consideration may impact the future timing of construction. There continues to be discussion regarding possible city/school joint uses.

Demolition is slated to occur after asbestos abatement is complete on the building. Asbestos abatement is anticipated to be complete this winter. Preliminary demolition discussion has indicated that a majority of the building will be crushed onsite and utilized as fill onsite to limit truck traffic in the area and reduce the cost associated with moving materials offsite.

All of the plans are preliminary in nature and subject to change. In the meantime, the city police will continue to monitor any suspicious activity at the site. If you see any suspicious activity, please call dispatch at 307-721-2526"

Ask the City Of Laramie is your chance to send the city that burning question that you have always wondered about such as: “Where can I get a city parking permit?” or “Why did my water usage rates go through the roof?”

Please note that the City of Laramie will answer as many questions as possible at their discretion.
