The 4A East Regional Soccer tournament saw the Laramie Lady Plainsmen advance and keep their seed, but also an end to the season for the Laramie Plainsmen.

The Laramie Lady Plainsmen (10-4-2) went 2-1 in Cheyenne last weekend and placed third.

They picked up an important 5-0 victory over Cheyenne South last Thursday to advance to this week's 4A State Tournament. In the Regional Semifinal, Laramie fell to number one ranked Cheyenne East, 3-0.

Saturday in the third place match, an eighth minute penalty kick goal from freshman Lexi Pulley held up in a 1-0 win over Gillette.

That gives the Lady Plainsmen the third seed from the East Conference going into their first round 4A State Tournament match-up. They face the West Conference's second seed Green River Wolves at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rock Springs Junior High.

The Laramie Plainsmen were not as lucky. The two-time defending 4A boys' State Champions will not get a chance at a three-peat.

They lost their first round 4A East Regional tournament match to the host Cheyenne East Thunderbirds. The final was 3-1.

East scored twice in a three minute span late in the first half, and the T-Birds added an early second half goal. In all, it was three goals in 11 minutes.

Laramie managed a penalty kick goal from senior Andrew Barnes late in the match, but a second loss to East in nine days ended their season.

The Plainsmen finish with a 7-6-1 overall record in 2015.
