The University of Wyoming’s election poll, conducted in October, indicated that Wyoming residents do not approve of the personal use of marijuana. We decided to do a poll of our own to see what our readers think on the matter.

NOTE

Our poll is in no way a scientific poll. Due to the possibility of more than one person using the same computer or IP address, our poll does allow multiple votes. Fortunately, those taking the poll were respectful of the multiple votes feature with the highest number of votes placed by a single IP address at five votes. The vast majority of IP addresses placed a single vote in our poll.

The survey was open online to anyone who wanted to take it. While it was posted on Laramie sites, those residing in other states and countries would still be able to access and participate in the survey.

FINDINGS

These numbers are correct up to the time of this writing. The poll remains open.

Our poll had a total of 284 responses. Of those, an overwhelming amount of people, 77.11 percent, stated that they do not care if people use marijuana for personal use. This is in contrast the UW poll, in which only 35 percent of respondents supported the personal use of marijuana.

In addition, just over twelve percent of the responses on our survey selected that they do not agree with it for personal use, but support the use of marijuana if the user has a prescription for it. The UW survey showed that most Wyoming residents, 72 percent, said that they agree with the use of marijuana if it is prescribed by a physician.

While the statewide UW survey indicated that 60 percent of their respondents opposed the use of marijuana, only a little over 8 percent in our survey selected that they do not agree with the use of marijuana for any reason.
