Plainsmen End Drought Against Cheyenne Central

The difference was only some inches. A defensive stop of a two-point conversion attempt gave the Laramie Plainsmen a 35-34 overtime win over Cheyenne Central.

Laramie (1-4) stopped the Indians 205 pound, senior running back T.J. Wiltanger just shy of the goal line in the first overtime for their first victory of the season.

The Plainsmen had the first possession. On fourth and goal at the Central six, Taylor Dodd connected with Conor Beeston on a fade pass to the corner over a pair of defenders. It was their first and only lead of the game.

The Indians answered right back on their first play with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brock Anderson to Jared Lesley. Central decided to go for the win and came up just short.

The victory was the first in the series for LHS in 14 years and snapped a 16-game losing streak to the Indians.

Laramie used a ten play, 74 yard drive late in the fourth quarter to tie the game and force overtime. The Plainsmen scored with 15 seconds left, when Dodd hit Beeston on an 11-yard scoring pass.

Central (1-4) took the lead back with 4:13 left on an Anderson to Jacob Carbaugh nine-yard t-d pass.

The two teams scored on four consecutive possessions in the first half. Laramie had a point after blocked, which gave the Indians a 14-13 lead at half. Central went up by eight midway through the third quarter. The Plainsmen tied it with just under nine minutes remaining. Carless Looney ran it in from 2-yards out, and that was followed by a 2-point pass to Idris Elias.

Dodd spearheaded an offensive attack the put up 433 total yards. The junior quarterback accounted for 320 of those. Dodd threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns. He added 105 yards on the ground. Beeston hauled in eight catches for 141 yards and three scores.

Anderson threw for 201 yards with four t-d's and one interception. The Indians finished with 458 total yards.

Laramie heads back to Cheyenne for their next action, when they take on the South Bison Friday night at 7 p.m.
