Mired in a five-way tie with three games left in the regular season, the Laramie Plainsmen start a tough three-game stretch on road Friday night.

Laramie (2-4) will face their third straight opponent from Cheyenne, and this time they head to the Capital City to play the #4 East Thunderbirds.

After losses to Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne South at home over the last two weeks, Laramie will need a victory over one of three ranked foes or some help to reach the 4A playoffs. They are tied with those two teams, plus Evanston and Kelly Walsh for one of the final four playoff spots.

Plainsmen head coach Chuck Syverson joined KOWB's David Settle to talk about what's going on with his team and look ahead to the East game:

Cheyenne East (4-2) is led by senior QB and safety Tevis Bartlett. The reigning Gatorade Player of the Year has been hampered most of this season by injuries. Senior running back Brad Craft has picked up some of the slack. Craft is averaging 108.7 yards per game on the ground, which is fourth best in class 4A. He's also scored six rushing touchdowns this season.

Laramie counters with their own weapon in senior Andy Pearson. He is averaging 159.3 all-purpose yards per game and leads 4A with 12 touchdowns this year.

Both teams are averaging 307 yards per game on offense coming into this meeting. The difference is on the defensive side, where the T-Birds allow about 75 yards and 18 points less per game than LHS.

The Plainsmen will be trying to get a win at East for the first time since 1999.

Laramie plays the #4 T-Birds at the new Okie Blanchard Stadium in Cheyenne. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
