Three champions led the Laramie Plainsmen wrestling team to a third place finish at last weekend’s Lander Invite.

Idris Elias, Carless Looney and Kaden Schriner won titles at 126, 170 and 145 pounds, respectively.

Laramie finished with 128 team points behind Star Valley (224) and Powell (168).

Dan Graeff added a third place finish at 160 pounds, Zech Aguilar came in fifth at 182 pounds, while Will Kozlowski was sixth at 152.

The Plainsmen return to the mat at Gillette and Sheridan this Friday and Saturday.

Indoor Track & Field

The Laramie Plainsmen won four events last Saturday at the CCHS Indoor Invite.

Chris Henry won the 800 meters, and McCade Johnson took first in the 55 meter hurdles. The Laramie boy’s also won both the 4X200 and 4X400 meter relays.

Of note, Nate Albers placed second in the pole vault with a new school record. He cleared 13 feet 6 inches.

As for the Lady Plainsmen, Kayla Sherrodd was second in the 800 meters, as was the 4X400 relay squad.

Laramie heads to Chadron, NE for their third meet of the indoor track season this Saturday.

Alpine Skiing

The Lady Plainsmen came in fourth, while the Plainsmen were sixth on the home course, as they hosted the Laramie Invite at Snowy Range Ski Area.

The Laramie girls scored 33 points, while the Plainsmen finished with 20 total points. Jackson won both team titles.

Ali Stark came in eighth during Saturday’s slalom, while Keely Marshall was 11th. Lena Weinstein topped the squad with an 11th place last Friday on the slalom course.

Garrett Webb paced the Plainsmen both days. He was ninth Friday and 10th Saturday.

The next competition takes them to Pinedale on February 5 and 6.

Swimming and Diving

The Laramie Plainsmen went 2-1 at the Conference Duals host by Cheyenne Central.

Laramie defeated Cheyenne East 96-83 Friday. They won 10 of the 12 events. The Plainsmen swept all three relays, while Cas Sheridan won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.

Saturday was a split, as LHS lost their first dual meet of the season. Laramie fell 100-86 to the Gillette Camels. The Plainsmen won only the 200 freestyle relay, which was the Camels first loss of the season in that event.

The Plainsmen bounced back with a 106-73 victory over the host Indians. It was another dual that LHS won 10 of 12 events. Cas Sheridan, Rhylan Huss and Noah Richardson won two events apiece.

Laramie added a pair of new state qualifiers over the weekend. Both were on the diving board, as Hayden Wheeler and Christopher Bury both made the state mark. That gives LHS 12 state qualifiers on the season.

Laramie followed the conference duals with another victory Tuesday night in Cheyenne. The Plainsmen beat South, 111-75. LHS won seven of the 12 events, which included two by Hunter Drury, the 50 and 100 freestyle.

The Plainsmen are 10-1 in duals this season. They go to Rawlins at 5 p.m. Thursday, and then it’s off to Rock Springs at 4 p.m. Friday and Green River to face the Wolves and Evanston Saturday at 10 a.m.

Nordic Skiing

After taking last weekend off, the Laramie High School Nordic Ski team returns to competition at Soldier Hollow, UT Friday and Saturday.

These races are Junior Olympic qualifiers. The races are broken down by age divisions.
