‘Possessed’ Piano From an Old Laramie Bordello Haunts Wyoming Family
According to Burkholder's account, in 1978, her mother saw an advertisment for a used piano in the local newspaper. The seller told her the piano had been salvaged from an old bordello in Laramie and had a hole that may have been caused by a gun shot.
After paying $20 for the piano, she later discovered it was haunted by the ghost of a prostitute who was shot and killed at one of Laramie's infamous brothels.
It started when the woman heard the sound of the piano playing at night. At first, she thought she was dreaming.
Finally, after waking up one evening to hear the popular Austrailian song "Waltzing Matilda" coming from the living room, she decided to investigate the history of the haunted piano.
She eventually found an old newspaper article about an incident that took place in 1912.
A patron was attempting to perform a trick shot, shooting a cigar from the mouth of a friend who was seated across the room on the piano bench. Unfortunately, the bullet bounced off the piano and struck a 19-year-old girl who worked at the brothel.
Her co-workers told authorities that she had recently arrived in America from Australia.
104 years after that fatal accident, the girl can still be heard playing "Waltzing Matilda" at night.
