Road Closed South of Albany on Medicine Bow National Forest

Monday marks the beginning of a road closure expected to last roughly three weeks as a culvert replacement project gets underway on Lake Creek.

Forest Road 517 on the Medicine Bow National Forest will be closed south of Albany for about a mile from Dry Park, at the intersection with Forest Road 513, to the intersection with Forest Road 575.

The U.S. Forest Service says the road will be completely closed until work is complete. Through traffic can get around the closure via Keystone and the 512, 542 and 543 Roads.

Non-motorized access to the surrounding forest will still be allowed and dispersed recreation sites outside the closure area are available.

In a news release, the Forest Service says "Temporary road closures are a short-term inconvenience needed to provide for long-term resource benefit and public safety."

The agency adds that visitors traveling through the Medicine Bow National Forest should pay attention to signs and refer to the Snowy Range Motor Vehicle Use Map for alternate routes while the closure remains in effect. The maps are free; physical copies are available at the Laramie District Office and an electronic version can be found online.

The Forest Service emphasizes that forest users are responsible for knowing where they are and what types of restrictions may be in effect.
