A pair of Rock Springs men could face long prison sentences after being arrested on drug trafficking charges this week.

According to Sweetwater County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jason Mower, deputies and detectives from the sheriff's department as well as agents from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) raided the home of 26-year-old Eric Hays on Monday. Mower says the search turned up methamphetamine, marijuana and some cash. Officials aren't saying how much money or drugs were found.

Hays has been charged with delivery of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and delivery of a controlled substance (marijuana).

An alleged accomplice, 21-year-old Steven Recla, has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance (marijuana).

Under Wyoming law delivery of a controlled substance and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance are both punishable by up to 20 years in prison, a $25,000 fine or both.

So if both men are convicted of all charges and receive the maximum sentences, Hays could face 40 years in prison and a $50,000 fine while Recla theoretically could be sentenced to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Mower says the investigation into the alleged drug trafficking the men are charged with went on for weeks before Monday's arrests.

Sweetwater county Sheriff Mike Lowell says tips from the public helped lead to the arrests.
