Laramie High School rodeo club member Blare Romsa is a 2015 state champion bulldogger.

Romsa topped the season-long points standings to win a saddle and qualify for the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, July 12-18.

The senior summed up his success by saying,

"This year's gone better than any other year that I've ever had in high school rodeo. I've never qualified for the national finals, so I think this is pretty neat."

With 216 points amassed throughout the 2014-15 season, Romsa beat his nearest competitor by 22 points. He won nine different rounds of steer wrestling in 13 different rodeo's throughout the state. Romsa had the lead after last fall's three rodeos and held it throughout the entire spring schedule, which started in Laramie, April 11-12, and ended at last weekend's state finals in Douglas.

Romsa added, "Just my senior year, it started to click for me, and I kind of started to figure it out."

At state, Romsa finished third in the first round with a time of 8.88. He won the second round in 7.34 seconds. Although Romsa recorded a no time in the championship round last Saturday, he managed to finish fifth in the average.

To prepare for the next step, Romsa says he'll keep competing.

"I'm going to a few pro rodeos here before nationals and hit some amateur rodeos. I think mainly just go out there, have fun and make three good runs."

In other results from the state finals, Laramie's Garrett Nunn won the Light Rifle competition with 308 points to become a state champion. He also will advance to the national finals.

Justin Dory just missed qualifying in the saddle bronc. He finished fifth in the season-long points race with 105. He's listed as an alternate, meaning if any of the top four cannot compete at the national finals, Dory would take their place.

Laramie's Alexis Manley came in 10th in the goat tying average in Douglas. She had a time of 40.07 on three-head. Manley also finished third in the championship round last Saturday with a time of 8.51. She added ninth place effort in the breakaway roping first round.

Bailey Butcher, of Jelm, was eighth in the second round of breakaway roping.
