Ronnie Dunn is no stranger to raising babies, and now he can start over again, as his son welcomed his own baby boy last month. Huxton “Huck” Wayne Dunn is only a couple of weeks old, but Dunn — a first-time grandfather — admits he is already wrapped around his little finger.

“I don’t know what this kid is going to do with Peter Pan as a granddad, so we’ll see,” Dunn tells Taste of Country, laughing. “He’s No. 1 on our side of the family and No. eight on the other side, so he’s going to fall right in line with some pretty crazy stuff.”

While the cowboy crooner wasn’t there for his first grandchild’s birth, he made sure he flew out to California soon after to meet the little one for the first time. “We flew out and spent a few days with them,” he explains. “[My son and his wife] are definitely going through that ‘I’m never going to sleep again’ phase [laughs]. Every time he cries, it’s a big deal. I can remember having kids, thinking I’m never going to sleep again.”

Dunn made sure to offer his son some firsthand advice on being a new dad, even toying with him a bit. “I told him he’ll never sleep again right off the bat,” Dunn spills with a grin. “I made it pleasant for him to look forward to [laughs]. But I talked to him yesterday, and he’s in great spirits. He’s going to be a great dad. He’s a good man. He’s a teacher. He could’ve done anything he wanted to do. He’s a really bright guy … very driven. I think he’s in his third or fourth belt in Martial Arts, and he’s teaching troubled kids in Sacramento.”

Grandpa Dunn may not have any more little ones running around his own house, but he considers his latest single ‘Let the Cowboy Rock‘ his new bundle of joy. The tune is the latest single from Dunn’s debut self-titled solo album.
