It really is good to be king.  And when it comes to young Mr. McCreery, it’s good to be atop the charts too.  His Freshman album, Clear as Day has taken the music world by storm and currently sits at number one on Billboard Magazine’s Top 200 chart.  That chart tracks the sales of all genres of albums in the country.

Scotty McCreery turned 18 on October 9, and that little fact means he’s the youngest male in history to have a debut album sit atop the all-genre charts.  Clear As Day has sold a whopping 196,739 units so far.

“My hopes were just to go out there and have fun and let people know that the album was out there,” Scotty said. “Everybody hopes for the number one, but you never really expect it. To see it up there is pretty incredible,” says Scotty.   “It’s a very good birthday present! I can’t think of anything to top it!”

“We are proud to be part of this project,” Luke Lewis, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group Nashville, said. “It couldn’t have happened to a nicer young man.”

Scotty has been all over the tube promoting the release.  He’s been on The Today Show Live with Regis and Kelly, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Ellen.

And he was the subject of his own special on GAC’s Introducing: Scotty McCreery.

Scotty is the first American Idol winner since Ruben Studdard to top the Billboard album charts with a debut album.  Reuben did it in 2003.  Kelly Clarkson also debuted at at number one with her first album 8 years ago.

Oh, and one more little honor is coming his way.  Scotty has been picked to sing the National Anthem at Game One of the World Series on Wednesday, October 19th.
