The City of Laramie Parks Division has closed a section of the Laramie River Greenbelt trail Wednesday, citing unsafe conditions.

The Parks Division said high water levels and ice formations caused the level of the Laramie River to raise onto the Greenbelt path at the Snowy Range bridge underpass. The water and moving ice made for hazardous conditions and the Parks Division decided to close the section.

Crews have placed barricades to alert users to the closure and the water level will be monitored and the closure will be lifted when crews determine it is safe for travel.

The city is warning residents that they should not attempt to cross Snowy Range Road to avoid the closed section of trail. Attempting to do so is dangerous due to steep grades and construction in the area.

The Wyoming Territorial Prison Park property also should not be trespassed on to avoid the closure. The Prison park property requires an annual fee for accessing and trespassing is not permitted.
