Former Wyoming senator Al Simpson paid tribute to his close friend President George H.W. Bush at the Bush's State Funeral today (Wednesday, December 5, 2018).

The 87 year-old Simpson took stood in front of mourners that included every living former President of the United States, and current president Donald Trump, and recalled Bush's humor, competitiveness, and leadership.

The retires Simpson, who now lives in Cody, Wyoming, had been friends with Bush for half a century. Al Simpson's Father, Senator Milward Simpson sold his Washington DC house to the Bushes in the 1960s. Simpson told KTVG-TV in Billings, Montana that the two families vacationed together. According to KCWY-TV in Casper, Bush even consdred Simpson as his presidential running mate in 1988

Alan Simpson was born in Denver, Colorado in 1931. He graduated from Cody High School in Cody, Wyoming, in 1949 and the University of Wyoming's law school in1958. Simpson served in the Wyoming House of Representatives from 1965 until 1977. In 1978 he was elected to represent Wyoming in the United States Senate, where he served until 1997.
