So far this winter season has been very cold, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of snow. The lack of snow put a slight kink in the Snowy Range Ski Area’s plans for opening. One weekend they were open, the next closed and now they are open again. After these delays things are now up and running for the season. The Snowy Range Ski Area is the closest location to enjoy an afternoon of skiing for Laramie residents and offers a variety of runs for beginners and advanced winter sport enthusiasts.

The Snowy Range is situated approximately 30 minutes away from Laramie in the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. Avoid the hassle of driving to Colorado and enjoy the simple beauty and variety of runs offered at the Snowy Range Ski Area. As of today they are reporting a base of 19″ down by the lodge and 22″ at the top of the mountain.

With the snow shortage that the ski area is currently experiencing there are two lifts and four trails open at present. The main Chute lift and magic carpet are servicing the following trails:

  • Virginian
  • Calamity
  • Cheyenne
  • Gunslinger

Even with difficult snow conditions so far this year, Snowy Range’s snow making equipment is in high gear to try and open as much terrain as possible. We have heard rumors that the Pioneer and Upper Drifter trails will join the list of open terrain for this upcoming weekend as well. The terrain park on the mountain is currently a work in progress and we are told that as soon as the ski area receives a little more snow it will open up. However in the mean time staff at Snowy Range have set up some of the terrain park equipment on the trails that are currently open.

Daily lift ticket prices up at Snowy Range have not changed this year and remain at last years rates which are:

  • Teen (13-17) $34
  • Children (5-12) $24

If you don’t have a season pass yet unfortunately the early season rates have ended and season pass prices have gone up. Here is what a pass will run you for this year:
