The second Border War was a war of attrition for the Wyoming Cowboys. They survived foul trouble and a big second half by Colorado State to beat the Rams, 83-75, Saturday in Laramie.

Wyoming (18-13, 9-9) led from start to finish and snapped a four-game losing streak. Josh Adams added 22 points, a career-high eight rebounds and seven assists. Derek Cooke Jr. chipped in 14 points.

Senior Nathan Sobey's 3-point play to open the second half gave the Cowboys a 47-29 lead (he scored a career-high 33 points). CSU erased it quickly with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes. UW held off every challenge by the Rams over the next several minutes.

The lead was trimmed to two points twice, but a 3-point play by Sobey with 5:06 left put the Pokes ahead 67-62. That was followed by a big, fast break slam by Adams with 4:21 remaining. A 3-point play and dunk by Cooke put UW ahead by 10, and Colorado State never mounted a serious threat the rest of the way.

Wyoming shot 50 percent from the field and held the Rams to 35.7 percent shooting. The Cowboys also had 18 assists and only eight turnovers.

Colorado State (16-15, 7-11) had three players in double figures. J.J. Avila scored 21 points to lead the Rams.

The Pokes built a 15-point lead at half, thanks to 19 first-half points from Sobey. It also helped that CSU shot only 24 percent, as well.

The Cowboys return to action next week at the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas. As of now, Wyoming's seed and opponent are yet to be determined.
