An incident earlier today caused the activation of Laramie's Special Response Team. At about 11:49 a.m. officers from the Laramie Police Department responded to the 1000 Block of McCue Street for an initial report of an aggravated assault with a firearm.

Further investigation revealed that 21-year-old Levi Kelly, of Laramie, had displayed a firearm and his roommate was concerned for his safety.

The Special Response Team, or SRT, is made up of members from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Wyoming Police Department, the Laramie Fire Department, and the Laramie Police Department. This multi-jurisdictional team was activated due to the safety concern.

According to the Laramie Police Department, officers attempted to contact Kelly via telephone, but were unsuccessful. Kelly was eventually contacted via a public address system from the Special Response Team’s Bearcat Armored Rescue Vehicle. Kelly exited his apartment without incident.

Police were seen leaving the area shortly before 1:30 p.m.

Kelly was not injured by himself, the SRT or any other law enforcement agency.

No charges are pending at this time.
