As it turns out, there's going to be a whole lot of country talent performing before and around the Superbowl in Indianappolis this February 5th.
I really can't remember this much country music being associated with the biggest sport and television event of the year. I mean, remember the notorious "wardrobe malfunction"? Want to bet that there is ABSOLUTELY no chance that's going to happen with ANY of the country folk lined up for this event?
Let's start with the most visible part of the show (other than the game of course).
Miss Kelly Clarkson
is going to perform the National Anthem. Now, look folks, I have nothing but love and respect for The Star-Spangled Banner. But the truth is, it is one of the hardest songs ever to perform; especially solo. You're up there, milions and millions of people are watching, and you've got to hit "And the rockets red glare" on the money or it's going to sound really bad. Kelly won't have a problem.
There's also a duet of America the Beautiful by simply the hottest country couple in the land: Miranda Lambert
and Blake Shelton
's performance has been the subject of pages and pages of speculation and rumor and now we have confirmation that they'll be honoring America with one of the more beleoved songs in the nation.
But wait, there's more: Darius Rucker
and Dierks Bentley
have been signed to perform at Super Bowl Village in the lead up to the big day. And there's news that Sara Evans
will be performing during a concert the day before.
And then, after the game and hoopla, country gets to shine again as the season premier of The Voice kicks off. While The Voice isn't exclusively country, Blake's participation and the fact that his wife, Miranda and Kelly will act as mentors on the show puts country front and center once again.
So, yeah. There's going to be a batch of country music surrounding the big game. And it's good for the event and it's very good for the format. I can't wait.
