The cause of the fire remains unknown, but Voos says it's safe to say the origin of the fire is suspicious.

Monday's operation saw crews focused on assessment, aerial water drops, mechanized fire line construction and structure protection.

Voos says given the proximity of the fire to the Wyoming/Colorado border, the pickup could have been from either state.

Benson says "there's heavy beetle-kill timber in the area," making it difficult to closely estimate the size of the blaze.

Voos says the Forest Service wants to hear from the public about what services forest visitors expect from the agency’s recreation sites.

The Forest Service plans to increase its law enforcement presence as the restrictions take effect.

The agency says the condition of native vegetation for wildlife and livestock on Pole Mountain is in decline.

The road closures would provide areas of secure habitat for deer and elk during transition periods, difficult winter months and the fawning and calving season.
