Despite a rocky 2012, Rodney Atkins will focus his efforts and use his talent to help raise money for cancer research at a Kentucky Derby Eve dinner party. The party, called the Julep, will be held on May 4 in Louisville to benefit the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville. Make no qualms about it, this is an event for those living high on the hog. At $500 a plate, Atkins will have the opportunity to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for the cancer center.
The past several months have been quite challenging for Rodney Atkins, as he continues to go through a highly-publicized divorce with his soon-to-be ex-wife, Tammy Jo. Atkins filed for divorce after 13 years of marriage following a late-night argument which ended on a very sour note — with Atkins getting arrested. His wife made serious allegations against him, claiming domestic abuse, though the singer has since been cleared of all charges.
Just a couple weeks after a string of deadly, tornado-laden storms ripped through the southeast, Rodney Atkins is going live on the radio station WRIL-The Big 106 to host a radio drive raising money for the storm victims. Atkins will especially be growing support for those communities that took the hardest hit in the March 2 storms – Harrogate, Tenn., West Liberty, Ky., and East Bernstadt, Ky.
Since November, Rodney Atkins has been embroiled in a bitter marital dispute that is in the process of ending in a divorce. The country singer was arrested Nov. 21 after his wife called 911 accusing her husband of trying to smother her with a pillow, among other things. The ‘Take a Back Road’ singer was taken into custody and then released on a $2,500 bail and in February was acquitted from the charges.
A Tennessee judge retired the charges against Rodney Atkins stemming from his Nov. 21 altercation with his wife Tammy. After completing court-ordered assessments for anger management, alcohol and drug use, the charges were cleared and expunged from his record.
Wednesday night (Jan. 11), Rodney Atkins took the stage for his latest appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ Atkins performed two tunes at the end of the show, including his recent chart-topping hit ‘Take a Back Road,’ as well as his brand-new single, ‘He’s Mine.’
