It’s time to plant your garden! Or is it? Gardening at Laramie’s high altitude certainly presents some challenges, including timing when you put your plants in the ground.

It’s an unfortunate part of the business world, but for one reason or another some businesses just can’t make a go of it and have to close their doors or change ownership. Laramie is no exception, especially due to tough economic times that have cause many people to stop buying items that aren’t absolutely essential including food at restaurants.

In Wyoming most of us are used to two seasons, winter and road construction. Now that the weather is turning warmer, it’s time for summer road construction and street repair projects around the city of Laramie. Over the past few summers, main thorough-fares like Reynolds, Harney and 15th have been shut-down for major repairs...

With the rugged surroundings, harsh weather and agrarian roots, Live the West is a fitting slogan for the city of Laramie. Another typical western tradition largely associated with Laramie is rodeo. Each year, Laramie hosts many rodeos, from youth rodeos, to high school and college rodeos, charity/fundraising rodeos and even Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association events.

If you’ve even been in Laramie during a Wyoming football game day, you know that it is unlike any other day in the Gem City. Storefronts are adorned with waving brown and gold flags, the streets are lined with people in their proudest Poke gear, front lawns are party hotspots, tailgates are dropped and parking lot cookouts commence; game day in Laramie is an event in the truest sense of the word.

Over the past week there has obviously been a mass exodus of students from Laramie as they take off for summer break or bigger and better things. The University of Wyoming is a huge driver of rental properties in town and without the University the landscape of the housing and rental markets would no doubt change.

Graduation is a significant and momentous occasion in life. It is a time to be recognized for years of hard work and personal growth. As a kid, I remember my Kindergarten teacher holding a "graduation" ceremony, giving us certificates to recognize our successful journey to first grade...

With all due respect to Mother’s Day, there are other holidays and events that many of us are more eagerly awaiting in the coming months. While the sheer idea of consistent enough temperatures to spend time outside is exciting, there are a few big national and local events set to occur over the summer that many of us are already anticipating.

It’s no secret that a significant portion of Laramie’s population is made up of college students. With the University of Wyoming, WyoTech and the Albany County campus of LCCC, the Gem City follows a rhythm throughout the year that is largely dictated by campus activities.

As Spring run-off from the mountains continues, pesky mosquitoes will soon be out in force. While the problem is not likely to be as severe as last year with the lack of moisture the area has received this winter, the City of Laramie is ready to start taking preventative measures soon.

With summer on the way, it’s time to get out and get in shape. Laramie has a variety of options for getting in shape. Besides the gyms in town, Laramie is surrounded by public land filled with hiking and biking trails.
