CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A new state task force will begin assessing Wyoming's bike paths and recreational trails in the coming weeks.

The 11-member task force is expected to issue a preliminary report on their findings by October. Their efforts are intended to help Legislators get a better picture of the impact of trails and paths on the greater community.

The group will study several aspects of non-motorized recreation, including health benefits, tourism opportunities, fatalities and accidents, as well as effective development of pathways and trails.

Task force members say they hope their efforts will bring about the creation of more trails and identify ways to improve state law regarding bike paths.

Governor Matt Mead signed off on a law creating the task force this past legislative session.
