Happy 241st birthday to the United States Marine Corps. Formed on November 10, 1775, the elite fighting force has helped protect our country since the Revolutionary War.

Over the years, the Marines have only "invaded" a state once

July 29. 1922, President Warren G. Harding dispatched a team of four Marines to Wyoming.

Their mission was to remove a crew of prospectors and assume control of the Teapot Dome Oilfield north of Casper.

Luckily, when the men occupying the sight saw the Marines coming, they surrendered without a fight. After posting signs on the property, the friendly Marines even joined the ousted oilmen for lunch.

The incident was part of the infamous Teapot Dome scandal during which government leaders were accused of taking bribes in exchange for access to federally owned oil reserves.
