The Lady Plainsmen Are Taking It Step By Step

Seeking their first title since 2010, the Laramie Lady Plainsmen will try to break-through at this weekend’s 4A State Soccer Tournament in Sheridan.

Action gets underway Thursday and goes through Saturday at the Big Horn Equestrian Center.

Lady Plainsmen head coach Kim Whisenant said no matter what’s happened in the past, they’re sticking to their formula.

“We always talk about take care of the first game first, and always go back to our game-plan and what we have to do to take care of business. We’ll talk about what system we’ll play heading into Thursday morning.”

Laramie opens with a first round match against Kelly Walsh Thursday at 9:30 a.m. on Field 4.

The two teams faced each other in the regular season. The Lady Plainsmen won the match on April 25th in Laramie, 3-0. It was shortened due to weather.

Sophomore defender Paige Trent said of this draw, “We’re pretty excited. We’re also happy that the conditions will hopefully be better than that match.”

Whisenant said she’s unsure of what the Trojans will present in the match.

“Come to these tournament times, people change things up and throw different things at you, so I can’t really predict what they might show us.”

Sophomore Courtney Hamilton believes the drive exists for a big weekend.

“I feel like our team’s going to come out super ready and super motivated and ready to just take it to ‘em.”

The first step is Thursday morning.

Laramie has finished in third place the last four years. They were runner-up back in 2011 after they had won three straight titles.

The winner of the match takes on the winner of the Rock Springs-Cheyenne East match.

The other first round matches are Natrona County versus Cheyenne Central and Gillette takes on Evanston.
