The Second Season for Laramie Basketball is Here [VIDEO]

This weekend marks the start of conference play in class 4A. Laramie will host Sheridan and Gillette in doubleheaders Friday and Saturday at the LHS gym.

Both the Lady Plainsmen and the Plainsmen are coming off a road trip they’d rather forget. They were swept at Rock Springs and Green River.

After non-conference the Lady Plainsmen are 7-4 on the season, while the Plainsmen are 5-6 overall.

Now it’s time for the second season.

Laramie Plainsmen

Laramie will face the Sheridan Broncs (3-8) Friday night at 7 p.m. in the conference opener for both teams.

The Plainsmen are hoping to see the return of senior and All-State guard Jake Aadland to the line-up. He missed last week’s games due to injury. Aadland leads LHS at 19 points per game and 2.7 steals per game. He also grabs six rebounds and dishes out 2.1 assists per game.

Laramie has been defensively oriented all season. They remain second in 4A allowing only 46.9 points per game.

Sheridan swept LHS a season ago. The Broncs are led by senior guard Blake Godwin, who leads them in scoring, defensive rebounds and assists per game. Godwin is averaging 15.5 points per game and is the only player in double figures. Sheridan scores 52 points per game, but surrenders 57.

The 5th-ranked Gillette Camels (7-5) visit Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Camels are led by seniors Dalton Holst and Kain Morehead. Holst averages 14.4 points and 5.1 assists per game. Morehead puts in 18.1 points and 8.9 rebounds to pace the Camels in both statistical categories. Gillette leads 4A in scoring at 67 points per game, but also gives up over 63.

Plainsmen head coach Ryan Puckett broke down his squad’s non-conference and previewed the weekend ahead.

Laramie Lady Plainsmen

The Lady Plainsmen will face returning Gatorade Player of the Year Robbi Ryan and the No. 5 Sheridan Lady Broncs (5-6) Friday night at 5:30 p.m. That will be followed by the high-flying 3rd-ranked Gillette Lady Camels (8-4) Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

These are three of the top six scoring teams in 4A. Gillette scores 59.1 per game, while Sheridan’s at 48.8 and Laramie is close behind at 48.3 points per game.

Laramie has a balanced attack led by underclassmen Lexi Pulley and Jennifer Aadland. Pulley averages 9.8 points and 3 steals per game. Aadland averages 7.7 points and team best 7.8 rebounds per game.

Ryan has been limited due to a hyperextended knee and didn’t play in the Lady Broncs last two games. She leads them in scoring, rebounding, steals and blocks. Ryan averages 19.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Gillette sports a 10-player rotation with only Jessie Geer averaging in double figures at 12.2 points per game. Five more Lady Camels score between 5.4 and 9.2 points per game. Gillette has already taken 299 three-point attempts this season.

Three of the four games will be on the radio this weekend. KOWB (AM 1290) will air the Friday night Sheridan doubleheader and Saturday’s girl’s game against Gillette. Due to a conflict with Wyoming Cowgirl basketball, Saturday’s boy’s game versus the Camels will be streamed only through Network1sports.com.

David Settle and VerDon Hoopes will provide the call of the action. Friday’s coverage will start at 4:45 p.m. Saturday’s will start at 10:45 a.m. with the boy’s streaming to immediately follow the conclusion of the girl’s game.
