The Wyoming Cowboys are participating in the 2016 Western Athletic Conference Championships in Houston, TX Wednesday through Saturday.

Wyoming head coach Tom Johnson said, “We have a ton of talent on this team. We’ve got guys that are prepared for seven battles over seven sessions… They’re really excited; we have great senior leadership.”

The Pokes finished third at last year’s championships and are predicted to finish there again. In a pre-championship poll of the WAC head coaches, Air Force was selected the favorite before Grand Canyon, and then Wyoming.

The Cowboys hold several top-five times within the conference heading into the meet. They are led by Ryan Ball, who is ranked second in the 500 freestyle and 200 backstroke. He was runner-up in the 200 back last year.

UW return’s one defending champion. That is Jacob Rehmeier on the 3-meter diving board, while teammate Austin Rettinghouse was second.

Competition started early on Wednesday and goes through Saturday at the University of Houston’s Campus and Recreation Wellness Natatorium.
