The Tie City Campground opened for the season Friday, according to a news release from the Laramie Ranger District.

The U.S. Forest Service says the campground has been closed for many years as a result of hazard trees resulting from the mountain pine beetle epidemic.

Located on the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest, the campground offers 17 campsites as well as access to a trail network for mountain biking, running and other recreation. One campsite costs $10 per night.

"Due to the diversity of species in the area, there are still many older trees surrounding Tie City and it is a great location to start exploring and enjoying Pole Mountain," says Laramie District Ranger Frank Romer. "We are pleased to be able to provide the public with another campground option on Pole Mountain."

The Forest Service says Tie City was named for the railroad workers who cut the ties for the Union Pacific Railroad from the Medicine Bow National Forest.

Forest Road 707A also reopened in the last couple weeks. Repairs had to be made after a beaver dam burst, washing out the road and leaving it impassable.
