I had the opportunity to write a blog about this song in the past.  And I also included a nice little link to the "uneditted" video.  I thought the video was a kick in the pants and I really admired the fact that Toby didn't take ANY of it seriously.

For those of you who have not yet had a chance to view the video, Toby was able to pack it full of famous and infamous alike.  Red Solo Cup features quick little cameo's from some famous folks.  Some of the celebrities included late-night TV talk show host Craig Ferguson, pitcher Roger Clemens, comedian/puppet master Jeff Dunham, country singers Eric Church and Joe Nichols, magician Lance Burton and basketball legend Larry Bird to appear in the video.

As it turns out, not everyone is as crazy about the video as I was.

For instance, Reviews are mixed.

Entertainment Weekly blogger Grady Smith wasn't amused, addressing his comments right to Toby: “You used to be the biggest superstar in country music, selling millions of records and raising just as many eyebrows, but these days, rather than making music for the masses, it seems like you’re more willing to scrape the bottom of the buffoon barrel and simply pander to your Trailerhood audience.”

As for Toby, he kind of agrees.

“The first time I heard it, I said, ‘That's the stupidest song I’ve ever heard,’” he told Country Weekly. “Then five minutes later, I’m singing it in my head.  “It’s amazing how stupid the song is, and how perfect it is.”

So, like all things on the planet, there will be things that cause one fan to fall down laughing, and there will always be those who ask "what the heck was this ol' boy thinking"?  I personally like the tune AND the  video very much,  However, I've read enough industry inside stuff to know that there are country programmers who are NOT amused.

Guess we'll see.  I don't really think Toby is in danger of losing his country music star chops over anyone's opinion of "Red Solo Cup".
