The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees recently appointed Ivan Gaetz the new dean of UW Libraries.

Gaetz will step into his new role July 1. He is currently the library director at Colorado College.

“I am thrilled at the prospects of joining the team of educators at the University of Wyoming and leading its libraries in the next phase of development that advances the mission of the university,” says Gaetz.

Gaetz holds a bachelor’s degree in history, a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Alberta, a Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at the University of Saskatchewan, a Master of Theology degree from Regis College at the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in educational studies from the University of British Columbia.

Gaetz was dean of the library at Regis University in Denver from 2001-2012 before becoming library director at Colorado College. He also served as library director at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia from 1993-2001 and several library positions at Columbia University and Alberta libraries.

“We are happy that Ivan will be joining us at the University of Wyoming,” says UW Vice President for Academic Affairs David Jones. “He had expressed a strong interest in our libraries, and we are confident that he will continue to build on the strong foundation that has been built over the last 10 years.”

“With the libraries of UW well-positioned as they are now, the library team of faculty and staff is poised to serve, in ever greater capacity, the students and faculty of the university, the citizens of Wyoming and beyond,” says Gaetz.
