In just the third competition of the season, the Laramie High School indoor track team won a pair of events at Saturday’s meet in Chadron, NE.

Laramie was one of 13 squads from Wyoming that took part in the Chadron State College Winter HS Open at the Nelson Physical Activity Center.

There were two event winners, while Laramie recorded eight finishes among the top three.

The Plainsmen were led by McCade Johnson. He won the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 7.88 seconds, which just ahead of teammate Zach Ziegler (8.08). Johnson added a second place finish in the 200 meters (24.12).

Nate Albers came in third in the pole vault and tied his school record clearing 13 feet-six inches. Laramie added a third place in the 4X400 meter relay.

Wrestling

It was a tough road trip for the Laramie Plainsmen, as they lost both conference duals at Gillette and Sheridan.

The Plainsmen won five matches but lost to the top-ranked Camels, 54-22, last Friday in Gillette. Four of those matches were bonus point victories.

Saturday against the Broncs, LHS won six matches in the dual, but fell 42-32 at Sheridan. Five of those matches turned wins with bonus points.

Idris Elias at 126 pounds and Kaden Schriner at 145 were both 2-0 on the weekend. Elias won by major decision, 16-2, Friday and via technical fall, 16-0, Saturday. Schriner recorded a 15-0 victory by technical fall last Friday and followed that with a win by pin Saturday.

Swimming and Diving

A road closure last Friday altered the schedule for the Laramie Plainsmen. With I-80 closed west of town, Laramie headed to Cheyenne for action instead of Rock Springs and Green River.

In a friendly meet at Cheyenne Central with the Cheyenne East and the host Indians, the Plainsmen won six events. Laramie added new events to their state resume, but no new state qualifiers.

They return to the pool at Cheyenne East Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Nordic Skiing
