University Of Wyoming Receives Funding From Rocky Mountain Power For Solar Project

Rocky Mountain Power today announced that the University of Wyoming will receive funding to help renovate the university’s 51.5 kilowatt solar system. The money, will be used to replace all of the solar panels and inverters on a ground-mounted solar system installed in 1996. Rocky Mountain Power will fund up to $76,200 for the project through their Blue Sky Program.

“The new solar panels will be highly visible because they are near the University of Wyoming’s football stadium, basketball arena and other athletic facilities,” said Harold Babbitt, Rocky Mountain Power customer and community manager. “The solar panels will also provide a very visual lesson for students about the benefits of renewable energy.”

The University of Wyoming recently created a sustainability minor that includes independent study projects focusing on campus sustainability issues.

For more than a decade, Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky program has provided a way for customers to support renewable energy development in the western United States. There are currently more than 4,200 Blue Sky customers in Wyoming. These customers elect to pay $1.99 per month to support renewal energy development. These funds help to build renewable energy projects and also to purchase wind and solar power in the state.
