University of Wyoming release:

The University of Wyoming golf program announced the signing of five student-athletes to the class of 2014-15 on Monday. Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen welcomes Drew McCullough, Quintin Pope and Glenn Workman. Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender added Klara Castillo and Sarah Hankins.

"I think we did a great job with this recruiting class and we got some very talented student-athletes. We have done a great job recruiting the area and Josey and I are very happy with this group," UW Director of men's and women's GolfJoe Jensen said.

Drew McCullough, Richland,Wash., Richland High School

Drew McCullough joins the Cowboys as a three-year letterwinner at Richland High School in Richland, Wash. He had a successful prep career under head coach John Richardson. McCullough is a three-time district qualifier and two-time state qualifier. He has also helped Richland High School to three conference championships. McCullogh's high school teacher Jason Aichele was a former golfer for the Cowboys and former caddy for UW great David Hearn.

McCullough also excels on the basketball court as a two-time letterwinner. Last season, he helped the Richland High School basketball team earn a conference title, regional title and a trip to the state tournament.

He also excels in the classroom as a member of the honor roll. He is the son of Shane and Stacy McCullogh.

Jensen on McCullough: "He is a top guy of the state of Washington that had some very good offers from some top golf programs. He is an elite golfer and a tremendous athlete that will make an impact on our program."

Quintin Pope, Cheyenne, Wyo., East High School

Quintin Pope joins the Cowboys as a four-year letterwinner at East High School in Cheyenne. He had an outstanding prep career under head coach Paul Hartigan.

Pope placed in the top 20 at the state tournament all four years of high school. Pope earned All-State honors in 2012 and 2013 for the Thunderbirds.

He was also an All-Conference selection and Team Player of the Year three times. Pope was named the Lew Lepore Player of the Year.

He also excels on the basketball court earning All-Conference Honorable Mention. He is the son of Matt and Karen Pope.

Jensen on Pope: "He is a great talent that finished second in the state. He made a big jump over the summer and has become a very consistent golfer. He is a great athlete and very talented ready to make a jump to college golf."

Glenn Workman, Pueblo, Colo., Pueblo West School

Glenn Workman joins the Cowboys from Pueblo West High School in Pueblo, Colo. He was a four-year letterwinner under head coach Derek Towwey. Workman was also the team captain during his time at Pueblo West High School. Workman was a Southern Regional champion and state tournament qualifier. He won the Colorado Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions crown during his junior season.

Workman excels in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society. He is also the Student Body President at Pueblo West High School. Workman was also a representative at Boys State. He is a active member in the community as a leader in Rake Up Pueblo.

Jensen on Workman: ""He is a great student-athlete and finished second in Colorado junior golf system and has played very well nationally. He is a great kid that we want in our program and he is very highly recruited." "This group of student-athletes will be a great group to watch grow, they are tremendous athletes and premium golfers. This group also excels in the classroom and in the community and will be great fits to our program," Jensen said.

Klara Castillo, Albuquerque, N.M., Sandia Preparatory School

A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Klara Castillo will join the Cowgirls after an excellent prep career under high school coach Allan Brumer and golf instructor Notah Begay II. She was awarded the FCWT Faces of the Future award, while also being named the Sun Country PGA Junior Player of the Year. Castillo was an Optimist International Tournament Qualifier and a Junior World Qualifier, as well as a Sun Country Girls Junior America's Cup participant. At the Junior World Qualifier, she shot a 71 to finish second and hit a 77 for a third place finish at the Junior America's Cup. Castillo owns her high school's lowest tournament record score of 73 and finished third at the 2013 state tournament with scores of 75 and 81 during the two-day tournament.

According to Golfweek, Klara is ranked 83rd in the 2014 girls class with a scoring average of 77.4. In the classroom, Castillo held a 3.6 grade-point average and is a member of the National Honor Society. Castillo is the daughter of Jan Wallner and Diane Castillo and was adopted at 9-months old. She is a cousin of professional golfer Notah Begay III.

Stender on Castillo: "Klara is a nationally ranked top-100 junior and her national playing experience, success and length off the tee will add great depth to our lineup."

Sarah Hankins, Thornton, Colo., Legacy High School

Sarah Hankins joins the Cowgirls from Legacy High School in Thornton, Colo., after lettering four years in golf under coach Mark Glen. A two-time All-State and a three-time All-Region selection, Hankins was also a two-time team captain. In 2013, she finished in third place at the Class 5A state championship and the Saddleback CWGA Junior Stroke Play Championship and was runner-up at the 2013 CWGA Junior Match Play Championship. As a sophomore, she placed seventh at the state tournament and was named the North Metro Spring Athlete of the year as a freshman. She placed 22nd of 144 competitors at the 2013 Optimist Junior Golf Championship and currently carries a 0 handicap.

An Academic All-State first team selection, she carried a 3.7 grade point average through high school and participated in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Skills USA and the swim team. She also volunteered with USGA- LPGA Girls Golf, Special Olympics and Bridges of Silence. Hankins is the daughter of Todd and Michelle and has one younger sister, Jennifer. She plans to study mechanical engineering while at UW.

Stender on Sarah Hankins: "Sarah is one of the top Colorado juniors with tremendous upside and a complete game. She has shown she can compete at the highest level in high school and internationally." "I am thrilled to welcome Klara and Sarah to the Cowgirl Golf team. Both student-athletes come from great families who have assisted in their maturity and work ethic both on and off the golf course. Academic success, athleticism and the determination to reach their goals all come naturally to these two and will help with the transition to the college game and life."
