LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — In an average year, University of Wyoming Police Department officers respond to about 12,000 total calls.

UW Police Chief Mike Samp described 2012 as an average year for the campus law enforcement agency. Year-end numbers are currently being compiled and won't be available until March.

Samp says the more serious crimes last year included sexual assaults and a high volume of larcenies and burglaries.

He tells the Associated Press that statistical data in the year-end report should shed more light on crime trends.

UWPD includes 14 full-time, sworn police officers that operate year-round.

The department also monitors university property statewide.
