As the University of Wyoming is preparing to welcome students back to the spring 2018 semester, planning is also underway for the 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Dialogue.

The 15th annual event is set to run from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3 and aims to engage the UW community through the programming and dialogue. The university recently released its programming schedule for this year’s MLKDOD, which includes a march and rally, presentations, exhibitions and other events. The schedule of events can be found here.

This year marks 50 years since Martin Luther King’s assassination. The theme for this year’s event is “50 Years: Reflecting on Our Progress.”

Jason Thompson, director of diversity and inclusion for the US Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, CO, is the keynote speaker for this year’s event.

Thompson was the first elected black president of the Associated Students of UW during the 1996-97 academic year. Thompson will discuss his work as ASUW president and his career during the keynote address Thursday, Feb.1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Laramie Live will have another story with more about Thompson and his experiences this week.

The overall goals of the MLKDOD are to raise awareness of diversity and social justice issues, foster an inclusive community and empower individuals to act in solidarity with marginalized communities.
