University of Wyoming student Maggie Moran was chosen as one of 21 recipients of the College Women's Leadership Award.

According to a UW release, the award is a national honor for social activism and political engagement. Moran, a Warrington, PA. native and UW student was selected as one of the award winners due to her leadership skills and commitment to social activism and political engagement.

The University says Moran is set to graduate this spring with a Master of Public Administration Degree. “Growing up in a military family, I developed a strong public service motivation,” Moran says. “My parents instilled in me the importance of volunteerism. I know it is very important to be civically engaged.”

The release goes on to say Moran is the student leader for Policy Equality and Advancement of Knowledge (SPEAK Out!) student group which addresses and focuses on awareness of gender and sexuality issues at UW. Aside from her involvement in that group, she organizes educational campaigns and advocacy projects. Moran has a role in various other groups as well such as Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, College Democrats, College Republicans, National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws Pro Choice Wyoming, and the Political Science Department.

“Maggie feels passionately about women’s issues, but she is a thinker and a doer, not a complainer,” says Stephanie Anderson, SPEAK Out! adviser and an associate professor in the UW Department of Political Science. “When she sees a problem, she finds a way to bring awareness and to shift opinion her way.”
