Albany County dispatchers are asking Verizon customers with an emergency to call Laramie police dispatch instead of 911 until the company can restore services.

A news release from Albany County Emergency Coordinator Aimee Binning sent shortly after 4 p.m. Monday says the agency has been notified by Verizon that the company is having unspecified utility problems.

Local residents using a Verizon phone who need help in an emergency should call dispatch at 307-721-2526 instead of 911 until the outage is resolved.

The county also sent out a Code Red message alerting people to the issue.

Verizon could not immediately be reached for comment.
