Volunteer Opportunities With Laramie Main Street Alliance
The Laramie Main Street Alliance is providing many great volunteer opportunities throughout the upcoming year. With a new year often comes the resolution to become more involved in the community, and Laramie Main Street has a variety of options to help people get involved and have fun doing it.
With the Laramie Main Street Alliance celebrating its 10th year in 2015, events are expected to be even bigger and better. Trey Sherwood, Executive Director for the Laramie Main Street Alliance, says that community involvement is essential for all the Laramie Main Street does in the community.
“With any sort of long-term revitalization movement–whether it’s in Laramie, or Cheyenne, or Casper–it’s all about long-term baby steps, and sometimes you only have one employee,” says Sherwood. “It just makes that so much more important for the community to get involved. So, whether it’s a volunteer opportunity, a board opportunity, helping at a special event—every little bit helps and it makes a difference in the long run.”
Four volunteer based teams help the Main Street Alliance in their endeavors. These teams include the Design Team, the Economic Restructuring Team, the Organization (ORG) Team, and the Promotions Team. Each of these teams meets once a month.
The Design Team works to beautify downtown Laramie while still adhering to best practices for historic preservation. Sherwood says this team works on any visual improvement in Downtown Laramie and is great for those who like design, art, or historic preservation.
The Economic Restructuring Committee is another way to get involved. This team is dedicated to business retention and expansion. They use the best outreach practices while cheering on local entrepreneurs.
The Organization Team brings resources to the program while educating the community about the value of a Main Street Program. This is a great team for those who are interested building relationships and outreach along with donor and volunteer engagement.
For those who enjoy throwing parties and hosting special events, the Promotions Team is an amazing fit. This team present events each year to draw people downtown.
In addition to the four teams, volunteers are needed for a variety of events including Historic Walking Tours, Laramie Brewfest, Downtown Mash-Up, Scaramie, Mistletoe Mosey, Upstairs Downtown Tours, Downtown Farmer’s Market and more.
“If you’re looking for something to put on your résumé, if you’re retired and you want to keep active in the community, or just try your hand at a new skillset without committing to a class… you can come test that out with us and we’ll put you to work and make sure you have a good time while doing it,” says Sherwood.
