What’s That Smell? Smoke From High Park Fire Arrives in Laramie

They say that where there's smoke there's fire. Luckily for Laramie, the fire is still over 50 miles away. Winds from the south blew smoke from the High Park Fire in Colorado into the Gem City this afternoon, so while it may look overcast, the skies above Laramie are actually pretty clear.

The good news is that Laramie is currently under no threat from the fire, which grew to over 41,000 acres on Monday night. Approximately 400 people are on the scene with 5 heavy air tankers, 5 Single Engine Air Tankers, 2 Type 1 heavy helitankers, 1 blackhawk helicopter and 15 engines in an attempt to control the fire which is 15 mile west of Fort Collins. Unfortunately there is still no containment and one person has been confirmed dead by Poudre Fire Authority Chief Tom DeMint.
