Wyoming Cowboys Down Another Quarterback

According to several reports, including a tweet from the University of Utah's compliance Twitter account, Jason Thompson is no longer in the running to become the new starting quarterback for the Wyoming Cowboys next season.

He was the leading candidate to replace Brett Smith, after the junior declared for the NFL draft.

Thompson has asked to be released from his scholarship and apparently has already found a new school in the University of Utah.

Thompson, who redshirted last season, played in six games in 2012 as a true freshman and started one. He was 27-of-52 passes for 222 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for 121 yards.

The Cowboys have two quarterbacks on scholarship. Returning are senior Colby Kirkegaard and Sophomore Tommy Thornton, who played in four games last season.

New Wyoming coach Craig Bohl is set to meet with the media on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
