Friday and Saturday in the Uni-Wyo Sports Complex, the Wyoming Cowgirls will host their first of two straight home tournaments, the Uni-Wyo Cowgirl Classic.

Wyoming is off to a 4-0 start and has won 11 straight matches dating back to last season. That is tied for the second-longest winning streak in school history.

Head Coach Chad Callihan says,

"We look at it as; we're on a four-match win streak. I know that people like to talk about the carry-over from last year, but this is a new team; with new pieces in place; new personalities. We're excited about the way we've started, but we're trying to stay humble."

Callihan admitted they have a lot to work on, but he couldn't have asked for a better first weekend.

The Cowgirls dropped one set in their opening four matches. They won the Montana Invite last weekend in Missoula, Montana. That featured a three-set sweep of Washington State, a four-set victory over Cal-Poly and another sweep of the host, Montana. Three Cowgirls were named to the All-Tournament team, including tournament MVP Courtney Chacon.

Wyoming followed that with a neutral-site win over Utah Valley in three sets last Monday in Evanston.

This weekend in the Uni-Wyo Cowgirl Classic, UW will be hosting South Alabama (0-3), Ball State (2-1) and Montana (0-3).

Callihan adds, "I think the teams coming in this weekend will be equal (to last weekend), in terms of athleticism... (It's) just a new week, and a new set of challenges."

The Cowgirls take on the South Alabama Jaguars at noon Friday. They'll face the Ball State Cardinals at 7 p.m. Friday, and will conclude the tournament at noon Saturday against the Montana Lady Griz.
