Wyoming Federal Judges Sentence Three Men, One Woman

Wyoming federal judges recently sentenced four people for crimes involving firearms and methamphetamine, according to a news release from the Wyoming U.S. Attorney’s Office.

U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl sentenced John Patrick Nordmann, 59, of Laramie for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He received three years of  imprisonment, to be followed by two years of supervised release. Skavdahl also ordered Nordman to pay a $100 special assessment and a $250 fine.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case.

U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson sentenced James Herman Bell, 44, of Evanston for possession of an unregistered firearm, destructive device. Bell was arrested in Rawlins. He received one year, six months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Johnson also ordered Bell to pay a $100 special assessment and a $250 fine.

The BATFE investigated this case.

Johnson also sentenced Cheryl Ann McGill, 53, of Phoenix for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. She received nine years of imprisonment, to be followed by five years of supervised release. Johnson also ordered McGill to pay a $100 special assessment and $400 in restitution.

This case was investigated by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Freudenthal sentenced Andrew Leon VanSteenbergen, 24, of Bellflower, Calif., for conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine. VanSteenbergen was arrested in Sundance. He received seven years, three months of imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Freudenthal also ordered VanSteenbergen to pay a $100 special assessment and $400 in restitution.

The DCI investigated this case.
