The U.S Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant to the Educational Health Center of Wyoming to open a new medical clinic in Laramie.

The New Access Point grant will allow the EHCW to open the only Federally Qualified Health Center in Laramie. The facility is expected to be operational in May and it will provide comprehensive health care services to Albany County residents regardless of their ability to pay.

“When we applied for this NAP grant, we knew there was a great need for increased access to health care services in Albany County,” says the center’s CEO, Dr. Kevin Murray, in a press release. “This funding will give us the opportunity to respond to that need and reduce barriers to care that many in the area face every day.”

During the grant’s three-year project period, the EHCW will receive more than $2.1 million to cover operational expenses such as provider salaries, medical equipment and supplies, and the cost of ancillary staff at the new clinic.

The EHCW health center will focus on the delivery of comprehensive patient care services and function as an inter-professional teaching model for students of the UW College of Health Services.

The Laramie clinic will join EHCW health centers in Cheyenne and Casper. The University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency Programs serve as the largest safety net in the state and deliver full-spectrum family medicine to more than 12,000 people each year.
