Parts of Wyoming Highway 296, also known as the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway, have been damaged as a result of the roadway sliding downhill Wednesday night into Thursday.

Cody Beers, public information specialist for WYDOT, says the road damage occurred in the same area where the roadway slid and sustained similar damage last year.

The slide is northwest of Cody, some 20 miles west of the intersection of WY 296 and WY 120.

WYDOT maintenance workers are at the site, and WYDOT geologists near Cody are headed to the area to assess the slide.

The highway remains open, but drivers are asked to drive slowly and carefully through the area of the slide.

Beers said in a Facebook post that he expects to have more information available later Thursday.
