A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a collision while investigating a high wind related crash this morning on I-80.

The trooper was seated in their patrol vehicle at 7:56 a.m. when they were struck by a secondary high wind-related crash. The collision occurred on I-80 near mile post 280.

The trooper sustained non-life threatening injuries.

“The trooper was taken to the hospital in Laramie and has already been cleared from the hospital,” said Sgt. David Wagener of the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Sgt. Wagener said the WHP has investigated 80 crashes statewide since Monday, Dec. 19, through 9:45 a.m. today. He said many of the crashes were attributed to severe weather and high wind speeds.

Sgt. Wagener said that the high wind related crashes demonstrate the importance of heeding wind advisories when roads are closed to light and high profile vehicles.
