Wyoming’s Tobacco Consumption Is Still Slightly Above Average

Despite tobacco consumption dropping dramatically worldwide, the most recent survey from Statista shows that Wyoming smokes and chews more than most states.

The most recent survey was done in late 2015 and shows that the average percentage of smokers in each respective state was 15.1% of the population.

Wyoming falls into the bracket where between 16.4% and 20.1% of the population smokes. The states with the most smokers include Arkansas, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The states with the least smokers include Utah, California, Minnesota, and Illinois.

According to a CDC survey in 2014, Wyoming is the state with the higest chewing tobacco rate. Nearly 9 out of 100 residents said they chewed, at 8.8%. West Virginia and Montana followed Wyoming for the highest chewing rates, while California, Hawaii, Delaware, and Massachusetts had the lowest rates.
