Two Laramie High School Golfers earned All-State honors with their top 10 finish at the Wyoming Class 4A State Golf Championships last weekend in Cheyenne.

Senior Kenzie Yeend and freshman Jackson McClaren both received the distinction for their performance.

Yeend fired rounds of 92 and 86 for a total of 178 or 38-over par. She finished in 10th place in the 4A field of 45 golfers.

McClaren shot rounds of 77 and 79 on his way to eighth place. The freshman came in at 156, or 16-over par at the Airport Golf Club. There were 54 players in the boys’ field.

As a team the Laramie Lady Plainsmen took fifth. They had a team score of 569 over the two days or 149-over par. Kelly Walsh won their third straight ladies team crown with a total of 499. Natrona County (529) was second followed by Sheridan (545) in third.

A young Plainsmen squad, that featured no seniors, finished eighth. They concluded the two days with a team score of 751, or 191-over par. Kelly Walsh repeated as boys’ team winner with a 604 score. Cheyenne East (610) placed second, while Evanston (677) was third.

Laramie Tennis

Laramie High School produced one regional champion, the No. 1 doubles team of Ally Franc and Chloe Jenkins at the South Regional Tennis Championships last weekend in Rock Springs.

France and Jenkins swept their first two matches but got pushed by Smith and Shuler of Rock Springs in the final. It went three sets with LHS winning 6-3, 3-6, and 6-3.

Their result helped the Lady Plainsmen to finish fourth with 29 points. Cheyenne Central won the girls’ regional team crown, followed by Cheyenne East, and Green River. LHS also had their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams come in third.

As a team, the Laramie Plainsmen placed third with 39 points behind Cheyenne Central and Cheyenne South. Laramie’s best showing came from junior Kyle Moore, who took second, despite an injury, at No. 1 singles. Also in second place was the No. 1 doubles tandem of Noah Dreiling and Quingfeng Li. Bury and Heinz at No. 2 doubles took third.

The Wyoming High School State Tennis Championships are Thursday through Saturday in Gillette.

Laramie Swimming

The Laramie Lady Plainsmen dominated the Adam Denton Memorial Invitational in Jackson last weekend. Laramie scored 476 points and won by nearly 200 over Lander, with the host Jackson in third place.

The Lady Plainsmen won nine events in the finals.  Led by juniors Olivia McPherson and Sage Morton, who both won two individual events. McPherson captured the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Morton swept the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Laramie also picked up wins from freshman Anna Roesler in the 100 free, and sophomore Maddie Appelhans in diving. LHS swept the relays with first-place efforts in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relays.

Laramie is on the road in Casper and Sheridan this weekend.

Laramie Volleyball

The Lady Plainsmen opened conference play with a sweep of two Cheyenne schools.

Laramie beat Cheyenne East at home last Thursday, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-20. They went on the road Friday to Cheyenne and beat No. 2 Central in a sweep. Scores were 25-23, 25-23, and 25-18.

No stats were provided for the matches.

The Lady Plainsmen are 9-5 on the season and 2-0 in conference.

LHS is back at home Friday and Saturday against Gillette (5 p.m.) and Thunder Basin (noon).

Laramie Cross County

Laramie took part in the John Martin XC Invitational in Fort Collins last Friday.

Head coach Greg Schabron said they were not at full strength, as a decision was made to hold out some runners for precautionary measures.

The Lady Plainsmen came in fourth place with 105 points. That was the second-best result for a Wyoming team. Natrona was third with 71 points. Individually, junior Jayla Wulff led the way in sixth.

The Plainsmen took sixth place as a team with 127 points. That was two back of Natrona (125), the top finishing Wyoming school at the event. Junior Mason Swingholm led the LHS boys with a fourth-place result.

The varsity cross country team heads to the Rapid City Invite Friday in South Dakota.
