2020 Grammy Award Nominations – 5 Burning Questions
Country music's women get recognized at the Grammy Awards in ways they can barely dream of at dedicated country awards shows, but why? That's just one of five burning questions we have about the 2020 Grammy Awards.
The big four country categories show a near 50/50 split in gender, but that's hardly unique to 2020. This year's nominees show a continuation of a few trends — certain artists are "Grammy artists" in spite of their lack of mainstream radio success. Every year there seems to be a legend returning to the Grammy conversation. In 2019 it was Loretta Lynn. In 2020 Tanya Tucker leads all country Grammy nominees with four nominations.
Why the disconnect? Taste of Country's Adison Haager and Billy Dukes team up to explain these mysteries, plus discuss 2020 snubs and predictions prior to the Jan. 26 show in Los Angeles. Ashley McBryde and Eric Church are two more artists with multiple nominations, and you can add Miranda Lambert, too, as she's nominated once as a solo artist and once as a member of Pistol Annies.
Can country music dominate in 2020 like it did when Kacey Musgraves won big in 2019? The "Butterflies" singer won four golden statuettes last year, including the all-genre Album of the Year trophy for Golden Hour. If it happens, it will be Tucker, but our expert says that's doubtful. Find out why in the video above.
The 2020 Grammy Awards will take place on Jan. 26 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Alicia Keys hosts the CBS telecast, which begins at 8PM ET.
