A former Laramie therapist is dead following an armed standoff in northeast Cheyenne Wednesday afternoon.

Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta says deputies with the Laramie County Sheriff's Office pulled over 49-year-old Scott Addison in the 4700 block of Ridge Road around 2 p.m.

"It basically turned into an armed standoff for about an hour," said Malatesta. "Just before 3 o'clock the suspect exited the vehicle with a rifle in his hands and fired that rifle."

Malatesta says three police officers and a sheriff's deputy returned fire, hitting Addison, who died at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

"Fortunately, no law enforcement officers were injured during the encounter," said Malatesta.

Addison was being sought on a felony warrant out of Albany County for probation violation and sexual assault.

As is the case in all officer-involved shootings, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the case.
